ATLAS
Silent Graphic Novel / 2024

A lone ranger travels across the sands of the Atlas Mountain range to seek companionship in a country overrun by colonial settlers. On a journey to find more of her people, Sameera must first learn one of the hardest lessons of all; how to be alone.
Character Design

/ The Main Character; Sameera
This project is based upon the extinction of the Atlas Lion, which is thought to be one of the only animals killed off due to direct human involvement. I used this as an opportunity to shed some light on the Spanish/French-Algerian colonisation which happened in the same area, creating a story about colonialism and loneliness. Sameera, the main character, is meant to be a representation of this, the trope of a Clint Eastwood type character, the silent yet strong type. She is also based on the Atlas Lions themselves, or more accurately, the Atlas Lioness, which were believed to be the only species of lions which acted in solitary instead of in prides.
